Niles Plaza Concert Series Event
Sunday, August 24, 2014
Niles Town Plaza in the Historic Niles District of Fremont
Bohemian Highway takes the stage at 3pm. Fronted by veteran Americana singer/songwriter Doug Blumer. He has been dubbed ‘the Honky-Tonk Sinatra’. He and the band take you on a musical journey through Love, Life, Laughter; all things worth singing about. The band features lush harmonies, thrilling songs and first-class musicianship on an extensive catalog of original material and songs that have inspired Doug’s love of music. The band features acoustic guitars, mandolin, bass, drums and saxophone on songs that could have found a place on ’70s FM radio. Think Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Elvis Costello and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
The Michael Osborn Band close the show with a unique blend of classic rock, blues and progressive country and a touch of funk and R&B. Soulful, always danceable. From its boot scootin’ boogie dance songs to its weepy ballads, this band has plenty of diversity yet Mike’s passionate, masterful guitar playing ties it all together. Mike has been entertaining crowds since the age of sixteen with his fret board wizardry and growling vocals. He has performed across the country – Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and is now based out of San Jose CA, performing at many of the most prestigious venues in the area.
The concerts are free to the public. Bring a lawn chair and grab any open seating on the plaza lawn. Ample bench seating also faces the amphitheater with great views of the stage, the old train station, the Niles hills, and the town. This is a family friendly event, and also includes a Kids Zone. The five-block Niles downtown is Mayberry with a twist – artisan shops, antique stores, restaurants, & pubs. The town also boasts Sunday steam train rides through the Niles Canyon on the original track bed of the Transcontinental Railroad, and an active silent film theater built by the Edison Company during Niles’ hey day as a silent film mecca. The plaza is located at 37592 Niles Blvd Fremont, CA 94536.
This event is sponsored by Dale Hardware, Valley Oak Partners, Mr Mikey’s Country Store, Fremont Cultural Arts Council, ACWD, Florence Bar & Grill, Papillon Restaurant and Niles Main Street Association.
